Applications of Micro Doppler in MOYAMOYA DISEASE

Moyamoya disease is a rare blood vessel disorder. It causes the carotid artery in the skull to become narrowed or blocked, restricting blood flow to the brain. To overcome the challenge and supply the brain with blood, tiny blood vessels develop at the base of the brain. The condition can lead to a stroke, ministroke, or bleeding in the brain. Moreover, it can hamper brain functions and cause developmental or cognitive delays or disability.

Kody Medical Dopplers

Doctors evaluate the patient’s condition to determine the most appropriate treatment. Performing surgical treatment early on helps slow the progression of the disease. For revascularization, surgeons bypass blocked arteries by stitching blood vessels on the inside and outside of the skull to restore blood supply to the brain. The scalp artery is connected to a brain artery (superficial temporal artery to middle cerebral artery bypass surgery). It helps in immediately increasing blood flow to the brain.

Micro Dopplers and Doppler Volume Flow Meter allow neurosurgeons to observe blood flow in pre and post-anastomosis.

Kody Medical Dopplers help in measuring and recording the following numerical parameters:

  1. Mean blood flow velocity (cm/s)
  2. Maximum blood flow velocity (cm/s)
  3. Diastolic blood flow velocity (cm/s)
  4. Minimum blood flow velocity (cm/s)
  5. Maximum blood flow volume (ml/min)
  6. Mean blood flow volume (ml/min)
  7. Heart Rate
  8. Pulsatility Index

The Bidirectional Doppler Volume Flow Meter is a bidirectional doppler with a large colour touchscreen and real-time waveform. There are two probe combinations for 4, 5, 8, 10, 20 MHz, & PPG. It enables blood flow and volume measurement for vessel diameters of 0.1 mm to 20 mm.

The surgical probes for DVM 4500 are available in large and small sizes and also in the thinnest diameter. They are suited for bypass surgery, pituitary tumour decompression, carotid endarterectomy, and aneurysm clipping assessment. Optional tucking doppler probes are also available in 3mm and 4mm sizes.

The handheld vascular doppler — Minidop ES100 VX, is a basic bidirectional doppler that allows surgeons to hear vein and artery sounds. For external use, it consists of an 8MHz bidirectional probe.
